History of the Maribor Hang gliding Club

The beginnings of kite flying in Maribor date back to 1975, when Davorin Geč received a drawing of the standard Marakovski kite from a friend and also made it at home. He started his test flights in a gravel pit and landed in the water for safety (the water was somewhere up to his waist). In June 1976, he also made his first flight from Pohorje (Bellevue) with a landing at the shooting range. That year, a good terrain for training kitesurfers in Šentilj was discovered and tested, where kitesurfers and paragliders were trained. In 1977, with the new ST-7 kite (with the ORA commercial), they successfully completed the first commercial for the Talis in Maribor. The flights of kites in these first years of flying kites lasted up to a few minutes, which was a nice success for that time.

Geč has been a member of the Delta Ljubljana hang-glider club since 1975, and in 1977 he and his friends began activities to establish a hang-glider club in Maribor.

Hang gliding club Maribor was officially entered in the register of associations in 1978. The founding members were: Geč Davorin, Artinger Karl, Marčič Bojan and Milan, Dimnik Drago, Brumen Dušan, Berač Srečko, Pečoler Mojca and Iztok, Albin Horvat, Pregl Dušan and others .

The association has active members and gained sympathizers in recent years, and wishes that this beautiful sport in Maribor would continue to be preserved.
